We recently upgraded to 12.2 and with that we lost the ability to select a printer when prescribing a medication. The loss of the functionality has become disruptive to workflow as controlled substances require a wet signature. You either have all prescription print to the pharmacy in house and walk down to the pharmacy to sign OR print all the prescriptions regardless of schedule at the Provider desk and walk them to the front desk. In the ideal state, the Providers would like non-controlled substances to print at the pharmacy and controlled substances to print in the provider area.
Has anyone been able to get this to work?
I am interested in a solution to this as well. We will be upgrading to 12.2 in March and this will also disrupt our workflow. Most of our prescriptions are printed on the Special Rx paper but everyone once in a while we need to change the printer so that a prescription can be printed on regular white paper and then faxed.
GE stated this is functionality is not supported and that we would have to log an enhancement request. Yikes!
I just got word that there will be a change in SP2 to allow a user to change printers from the prescription form. 🙂
I literally just did the most riduclous happy dance in my chair!!!
We just upgraded and we're having the same issues. There are quite a few changes to the rx refill form that are completely ridiculous. Here are my biggest gripes:
1) As mentioned in this post, you can't change the print method on the fly.
2) You can't refill a prescription until you have selected a pharmacy. What if we don't want to select a pharmacy because we're printing the rx?
3) Changing the prescribing method and Authorizing Provider only applies to a single med at a time. So if a nurse is refilling 5 meds and needs to change the Authorizing Provider to an M.D., they will have to do it one at a time, on each of the 5 meds.
4) This one is minor, but why the heck is the button for removing a selected med labeled "Ignore Refill" with a circle arrow? How confusing. Why not just the typical red 'x' and the words "Remove" or "Delete". Circle arrows usually mean refresh. I'm sure users will get used to it, but on day one of the new version, many users have been confused.
5) This is the big one. Intermittently, there is NO option for faxing prescription. Sometimes it's there, and sometimes it's not. I haven't been able to figure out why. It may have something to do with which meds are selected, but I can't find a pattern. I have a ticket open. Has anyone had this problem?
Here is my list of improvements to the Rx refill form:
1) NONE

Here is a work-around for the issue identified: prescription refills are defaulting to the nurse (or whoever is starting the Rx Refill) as the authorizing provider.
If you go into preferences patient charts prescriptions … make sure under the heading “initial setting for authorized by field” the radio button is selected as “Responsible Provider for patient”. That way it will default to whoever is listed in the registration as Responsible Provider.
Obviously you will still need to change the provider if this isn’t designated correctly or someone other than who is listed in the registration will be doing the refill.
Hope this helps.
Is this broken again in 12.3.2.3116?
