Has anyone had any luck with attaching scanned documents to an encounter? We use and indexing client to import scanned documents to our chart. We have found that it will allow us to attach these scanned documents to an encounter if the encounter is unsigned. We have some scanned coding inquiries that we would like to attach to the appropriate visit upon import. Since these visits are already signed by the providers our indexing client will not allow us to attach them. We have tried to go to the encounter in the patients chart and use the attach button but are unable to get it to attach appropriately. We tried attaching through file, clipboard and scanner. It appeared to be working but if we had more than one document in that patients chart that we used those methods for it showed all attachments under each encounter. For example we had used those methods to attach 3 different images to 3 different encounters. Now when we go to view the attachment for one of the encounters it shows us all three images. It does this on each of the 3 encounters.
We also tried importing from an Ext. Ref. but if we do this we have to keep the image in the folder we import from to avoid breaking the link. This folder could get very large over time so we want to avoid that option.
Sorry if this is unclear. I tried to explain it as best I could. I have read through the help menu for attaching images but I must be missing something.
Thanks!!!!
A way I have done it in the past is to append the visit and put the append on hold. You then can attach the documents to the append and import any number of documents. Then go in and sign the appended portion of the document and it will show up under the office visit.
Hope this helps and gives you an idea to play with.
Great idea!! Don't know why I didn't think of this myself. We did try this on a test patient and the only thing that we don't like about it is that in order to see the attachment we have to go to Full Document Viewer and then click the Attach button. Normally with our external images we can select the document and click Attach to see the image without having to use Full Document Viewer. Any idea why this method works differenty?
