I 'd like to hear from any site that has their labs come back and auto-COMPLETE without manual intervention, via HL-7.
How hard was this to set up?
Have your labs been cooperative?
Any problems?
Thanks.

Our labs have been auto completing once signed since we implemented our EMR. I wasn't involved with that set up so I can't speak to how difficult it is but I would recommend going over the Managing Interfaces with CPS document "with a fine tooth comb". One place to start is on page 286, there is a section on "When an order is marked To Be Completed".

We use the Liaison solution called EMR-Link. Works very well and it was easy to set up. They were extremely helpful during install. For maintenance/troubleshooting, etc there are just a few .bat files which automatically run on our DTS gateway. I may need to add some new labs in the cross reference if we add any new labs but haven't had to so far. I can't recall the last time there was an error because the staff orders the labs through the EMR-Link webpage and that makes the incoming patient data match with 100 percent accuracy.
Are you talking about under Administration > Preferences > Orders Completion? There is an option where you can set the documents you want to complete orders when signing documents of type (say lab and images/radiology reports). If you are talking about something through interface then I would be interested too.

Closing orders via HL7 is fairly easy. I have multiple interfaces doing it. If you use EMR-Link you can set that up through them.
Kryptiq/Surescripts Document Management also has the ability to close orders on scanned labs, however they have had a bug in that interface for years. Just last week I wrote a Mirth interface that fixes their bugs and properly closes lab orders. It would close orders but not if you tried to close too many at the same time.
We also have a radiology results interface that we setup to close orders.
Thanks for the help; this is just the information I was seeking.
Cheers.
