Any insight on if executing ad-hoc queries can cause performance degradation in the CPS environment?

OK, the 'wise-guy' answer to this is of course. And, since you were on the same corporate network to be on this forum and post the question, you also had an impact on your overall system processing.
In reality, all reports and queries will have an impact - and only you will be able to judge if it is truly detrimental vs. the need for the data. I would try to avoid lots of reports and queries during the day that are complex or that will analyze lots of data. But only you (and your IT people) will be able to say for sure if your report had any measurable impact on other users.
