I have a growing problem and I need to cut it off at the pass:
All versions of IE (9, 10, 11) are crashing at workstations with an "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must close" error. This happens with multiple tabs open as well as with discrete windows. It happens for all end users (MDs, MAs, and Front Office). And it happens "randomly" but more frequently - which is why I'm getting alarmed.
Workstations are Win 7 (Pro and Ultimate), 4GB - 16GB, lots of disk available, not process, core, or network bound, all DHCP IP addressing, all managed by policy. Antivirus/Antispam is Symantec administered centrally, all up to date - full scans every morning at 3 AM. Antispam is also run at the email server (Mailessentials) and at the firewall.
Network is switched Gigabit Ethernet.
Applications in use concurrently:
Physicians: C-EMR 9.8.6, Beth Israel Link, Partners Healthcare Link
Medical Assistants: C-EMR 9.8.6, Beth Israel Link, Partners Healthcare Link, AthenaCollector, Time Clock
Front Staff:C-EMR 9.8.6, Athena Collector, Time Clock, Scanning, Indexing
Thoughts????? Thanks for your help!!
We had this issue as well and it was caused by a recent security update released by Microsoft for IE. Not sure if your servers / workstations patched recently but I would remove. Here are the relevant KB #s.
KB3012176
KB3008923
Luladin,
Thank you! Apparently, KB3008923 can cause symptoms that are just like the ones I'm seeing. I am removing it on a couple of workstations.
Removing KB3008923 requires a workstation reboot.
More as details become available.
We experienced the same issue and it was creating a lot of unhappy users. I upgraded our browsers to IE10 and added the Centricity website to compatibility view. The crashing ceased immediately. In retrospect, I could have probably done the same with IE9.
I am pleased (as punch!) to announce that removing Microsoft KB3008923 relieves the symptoms of this problem!
Low disk space seems to be a contributing factor.
Thank you for your help!
Microsoft KB3008923 will cause this issue in Win7 32 bit only. 64 bit does not have this issue
