Post 9.8 upgrade.... we are seeing, sporadically, MEL code when we open a patient's chart, in the banner. When we jump to a different patient, and then back to the original, the banner looks fine again. Happens very infrequently, but does still occur. Does anyone else see this, and if so, have any idea as to why this happens ? No pattern, just every now and then.

Do you have a custom banner? or are you using the stock GE one? Also check the patients registration for any odd characters.
We have had the same thing happen to us in CPS 11. The "fix" you are applying was the only one available when we were experiencing the issue. There was no rhyme or reason and one day it stopped happening without anything being done on our part.
This occurs quite often for us as well. I think it started after one of the recent service packs. Please let me know if you find out a way to correct this issue.
Happens with us on 9.8.6. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason for it.
I believe the reason for it happening without seemingly anything wrong with the banner is because that is the answer. Nothing directly to do with the banner, but indirectly related to the complexity of the banner.
On heavy network times, there may be network time-outs where your MEL code is not properly executed. And thus, MEL garbage in the banner.
At least, this is what I have seen at various sites.

We are seeing the same issue on EMR 9.8...On my PC this issue usually occurs when I'm working in Link Logic,
I've noticed this as well on 9.8.6 (but also when we were on 9.8.3), that when in Linklogic or going between report & chart tabs it will briefly flash mel garble in banner and/or flash red as if deceased pt.
After experiencing a crash of our immunization form I get this on the next patient I open without closing out of the client completely. Does it also display MEL code on any open document updates as well? I think mine might be a hard crash of something on the back end where this seems like a temporary thing.
Todd, yes, I think you are referencing something different. - We experienced something similar to what you described as well in our Test environment... where we would randomly get crashes in immz forms, then the html forms would produce errors (script errors, and display issues) for any subsequent charts during that open session..as well as bombing out all mel in notes & banner. We ended up reloading our HTML content as well as having to reload our recent knowledgebase updates (sept-Nov) to resolve those issues, which were specific to the Immz.
Hi, the patient banner MEL issue after working in LinkLogic is a known issue with GE. You will need to switch patients to refresh.
I have encountered a similar issue in 12 where if you hit the enter key in the chart summary it will make the whole banner disappear
