Hello, I am new to the forum. We are on CPS 12 and occasionally a doctor is unable to sign a note. This always seems to be when a covering doctor leaves a note unfinished and another doctor continues to work in the chart and sign other things. Neither doctor can sign or delete the note. This is rare but over time a few of these build up on the desktop
Any explanation for this or solution. We would be completely fine deleting and rewritting the note if that is the easiest work around. Thanks for any input that anyone has.

Do you get any messages on why? Make sure the providers also have the privileges to sign the correct document types.
It sounds like your providers are creating "blue locks" when leaving a document on hold without signing clinical list changes. If you look at the documents listed on the documents tab is there a small "blue lock" icon. If so this is the cause. This can be resolved by making sure that providers/users check the "sign clinical list changes" box when placing a document on hold.
The application creates these "blue locks" as a way to prevent the database from being overwritten while in the process of updating.
Also make sure two different providers didn't prescribe in the same encounter, that will lock it too.
Sometimes in CPS 12 we have noticed documents that look signed but are still on hold or stuck in progress. Our physicians have been unable to sign. We have entered cases with GE and they help us remove the masterlock on the document/chart.
Download the GE Administrative Toolkit. Your will need information about your server which your IT will be able to furnish you. This tool enables you to identify the patient, select the document, and sign it.
We have had a few instances where the locks on a specific Chart Note have gotten stuck. It usually happens when a provider gets kicked out of Centricity while updating a Chart Note, but I believe a couple of times it has also occurred when one provider tried to have another provider finish his/her Chart Note.
Are you familiar with SQL? There is a table in the Database called "LogLocks" and one of the fields is this table is "EndLock" and it is my understanding that these locks should normally clear themselves after approximately 20 minutes of inactivity, but this does not always happen.
You may want to check this table for the specific SDID related to your document in question to see if the document has any outstanding locks on it, especially the "EndLock". I have been told by GE when an offending record is found in this table that it is OK to delete that specific record from the table, but please note, make sure that you are just doing it just for that record as this table does control locks on documents to make sure that multiple providers are not updating data in the same chart and overwriting each other.
I am curious as to what message you get exactly, I find a lot of times it is just unsigned clinical list changes and that is usually an easy fix
Thanks everybody for all the input. It does have the blue lock and I'm sure it was from more than one providing prescribing while the chart was open. I will contact IT to teach me how to use the administrative tool kit.
