I'm trying to pull all antibiotics from MEDINFO table in CPS v10 to just have a list of them; however, I can't seem to find an easy way to do this. Usually when I pull reports on MEDINFO I just use GPI to get a certain class of drugs, but antibiotics is a level above the drug class.
Has anyone done this before or know of an easier way to do this?
looks to me like antibiotics mostly have GPI from 0110001010 through 1699000230 AND
01100010102125 through 16990002302010.
You are going to miss a few things that are categorized differently, eg, dermatological antibiotics and some urinary tract antiseptics and such.
You are going to catch antivirals and antiprotozoals however and you may not want that.
Give the MEDINFO table (in an excel sheet) to a pharmacist or a clinical informaticist and tell them exactly what you want and they should be able to do this for you quickly.
Yeah, it turns out that Antibiotics isn't part of the hierarchy of drugs. So, in the end I had to find out which drug classes made the most sense by talking with the providers and used the associated GPI ranges.
The reason I was getting this information is for NQF 0002 Meaningful Use report which doesn't seem to be in the Meaningful Use reports supplied by GE. CMS doesn't tell you which antibiotics it is referring to. So instead of including all of them, I decided to use the ones related to Pharyngitis.
