Over the weekend we received a notification that 12.3.4 has been posted to the product downloads. I had not heard anything about this. I thought maybe it was a mistake, and they meant CPS 19, but I went and looked and sure enough there is a 12.3.4. Looking at the list of fixes it looks like it could help a little. Moving to version 19 has me worried about all of the new bugs that could be introduced.
So now we have to decide, do we stick with 12.3.3 and wait for 20, do we wait for v19, do we just try 12.3.4, do we try 12.3.4 and still plan on v19? Wondering what everyone else's thoughts are on this. Since service packs are such an undertaking, I'm not eager to take on more than I have to, especially when they cause headaches Monday mornings...
Our plan is to go directly from 12.3.3 to v20 - we have to have AUC but given the timeline athena has presented for v20, we are planning to skip SP4 and skip v19 to go directly to 20.
I was leaning that way too, until I saw this service pack. What have you heard about the v20 timeline lately? I wasn't really expecting it until around October, but I'm not sure if that's by pessimism towards Athena timelines or something I actually heard or saw at some point..
CPS 12.3 SP4 from my understanding is just a roll-up servicepack that includes the CCDA and reporting fixes that were released in the couple hotfixes. There are also a couple of new fixes added but that is it.
As for v19 vs. v20 it really depends on how prepared the clinic is with Azure and cloud services. v19 has features in it that rely on the Azure cloud services (AUC) where you can test and validate your setup prior to v20. As with v20 Azure cloud connections are mandatory for the new DrFirst medication management model to function.
Also I have seen some facilities start to require the AUC validation for orders now, and that can impact one upgrade vs. two this year.
V20 has not begun LA yet, so as far as a timeline to go general availability, with the complexity of the changes, i would not expect it until late 3rd quarter at best.
We are 12.3.3 but are considering 12.3.4 since its an easy upgrade and has alot of CCDA2.1 fixes and a few other odd fixes that would benefit us.
We are weighting the options now for skipping v19 and going straight to v20, but there are some revisions to the Rx Renewals and prescription pages that our clinical staff would greatly appreciate, so we may implement it, most likely when v19 SP1 comes out.
I do agree with the post from vandeber, v19 is a great way to test out all of your AAD functionality to ensure you have it setup properly, as V20 will be highly driven around that cloud connectivity.
The webinars they've been presenting about V20 says they're aiming for general availability around the end of June. We'll likely skip SP4 & V19.
