Hello, I was wondering if anyone has encountered this before and if so, how you resolved it. Some of our terminal server users are getting a page titled "Centricity Practice Solutions Browser" when trying to view attachments in charts of scanned documents. The address that the document is pointing to is correct because I can copy and paste it into the IE browser and the document will open up via adobe reader. I've checked the file associations on the server and they are all working. Thanks for any advice.
Gary
What version of CPS are you using? We were on 9.5 pre Service pack 1 and that happened on nearly all document attachments opened. The frequency of this has lessened with SP1, however it is not entirely fixed. GE is aware of the issue and I believe there is a SPR# associated with this problem.
good luck!
Hi Josh, we are on CPS 9.5 SP1. I've found that this happens to old documents that may have their slashes facing the wrong way. I guess older versions of Windows didn't care if it were a backslash or a forward slash. Server 2008 only wants the attachments path to look something like this \\someserver\documents\x\y\z.pdf We are trying to investigate ways of changing the paths within the database via a SQL script so that we won't have to manually change each path of attachments.
Hi Josh, do you still have this problem with the Centricity Practice Solutions Browser? We are having a heck of a time when our providers call with this dreaded issue.
Thanks,
Gary
What exactly is your issue, are the attachments not loading? All the attachments in my database are stored as http urls so that CPS Browser always opens up. I'm not sure if UNC paths will launch the browser.
I should add that I'm using CPS 10. However, I don't think I ever saw the Centricity Browser when I was on 9.5 - it was always IE that opened on our systems. Maybe there was an issue that I never noticed.
Also if Adobe Reader is not set to open PDFs in browser (Adobe Reader, Preferences, Internet, Display PDF in browser) then it can't display inside the CPS browser. The browser opens but Adobe Reader also opens in a separate window to display the PDF. It's like the same process that happens in IE when opening a PDF from url, but IE knows not to leave a new window around. If Adobe Reader is set to display inside the browser it should work ok. Same thing for other file types with IE plugins.
Adobe is set to open in a browser window. What I am finding is that the CPS Browser, not to be confused with IE opens in front of everything and displays as this page can not be read. If I close that window, sometimes I can see the pdf hiding in the background.
If the PDF never opens inside the browser, maybe its a problem with Adobe Reader. If you have Adobe Reader 10 installed, maybe you could try 9.5.2 instead? Not sure if you already reinstalled it. I don't really have any other suggestions... like you mentioned before it might be the attachment path style, CPS's browser could be picky.
I've even gone the route that Adobe recommends and customized the installation of reader 10. I've tried both Adobe and foxit reader and gotten similar results. We may open up a ticket with GE.
We had this same problem. We are hosted so I don't know the exact setting but you can change it from opening the server browser (CPS browser) to opening it in a local browser. Our problem was with opening PACs images; we host our PACs locally so having the hosted server open it would never work since it isn't directly connected to our network. The change to the CPS browser was brought on by our upgrade but was very simple for the hosted team to change.
Hi Josh,
Check this out on your computer.
c:\Program Files\Centricity Practice Solution 100\Client\mlsetvar.txt
Open the mlsetvar.txt file - locate the section below, go to the end of the section and change the 0 to 1. Once you do that the attachments will open as .pdf documents in your IE browser. If your docs are like mine....they'll love you for knowing how to do this. The attachments are much easier to manipulate and allows them move the attachment over to a second monitor. Each attachment opens in its own tab and they have many open at the same time.
// SPR 45279 (clone of 43561) Used to control how the browser is used for external attachments
// 0 = use the CPSBrowser, any other, use ShellExecuteEx to open the default browser
Variable: _BrowserMode Type: Long Value: 0
(This isn't an Adobe issue BUT whatever you do stay away from Adobe Reader X. Either install 9.5 or Adobe Reader XI. I disable the securities which are located under preferences so that Dragon can still play.)
Hope this helps!
Terri
Terri,
You have just provided a solution to something that has been nagging our providers for months! We opened up a support ticket with GE and they weren't able to help. Thank you so much!
Gary
wow. This is a great find. Works great on 9.5 also.
🙂 I knew this would bring tears of joy to some! I am pretty sure it works for 9.0 too...in the recesses of my cluttered brain I believe that's what version we were on when I was gifted with this information.
Terri,
It certainly made my day. We would get multiple support calls each day about viewing attachments. Our work around was to use the windows keyboard shortcut alt-tab to find the attachment hiding behind the blank window. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
