We are running a Citrix environment and have been having issues with default printers. Randomly the printer will default to a different office or no printers will show for that session. This is ONLY in CPS. We have several other applications published through our Citrix environment and have no issues with them.
If anyone has any idea on how to correct this I am willing to listen to just about anything at this point. This issues has been ongoing for MONTHS. it will work correctly for a few weeks, then comes back and our providers are extremely unhappy. Please help!
Thank you,
Matt Dooley
We have been live with CPS for a bit over 12 months. We have had the same problem for the whole time. We have had similar issues with the printers being there and not being there. We have tried to limit the number of printers each user sees by changing their user profile, yet we still see the same erratic behavior. We also would like to know the solution to this riddle of the day.
We experience this in EMR 9.8 as well. We just had a meeting with Citrix yesterday about this and they are stating it is related to the application and not Citirix. I hope someone can shed some light on this issue as it is very frustrating for our physicians.
Please update the forum as we have been having this issue as well and would love to know how to resolve it. Why as the printers not loading in the session if it is not a Citrix issue.
Interesting, I did not add the "Known GE Issue" tag to this thread.
Apparently this is something that is known to be an issue but is there a work around or anything?
We don't use Citrix, but we had similar issues with Terminal Services. We changed a line in the emr.ini file:
from:
UseClientName=FALSE
to:
UseClientName=TRUE
This changes how CPS stores the Printer Setup for the EMR side of the application. It stores based on the connecting client name (in our case the thin client) vs server name. The issue in our environment was one user would set a default printer for Prescriptions or handouts in EMR printer setup and it would change it for everyone else on that server.
This only seems to affect the EMR side, if you are also having issues with setting default printers for Practice Management reports, this probably wouldn't help you.
Thanks,
Jake
Folks,
As it appears that many of us are having issues with this, has anyone logged a Service Request or knows of an open SPR relating to this issue? In speaking with my CPS account representative this morning, she indicated that she is not aware of any open, reported issues with "Disappearing Printers". If you have an SR or SPR on this issue, can you share this number with us so we can all discuss it with our respective account representatives?
Much appreciated!!!
the second answer on the page by hinks2000 should fix your issue. We run a citrix environment and this is the same issue we had. This fixed the issue, came straight from GE. Also, every time you do a version upgrade, you will have to reapply this fix. You will also have to apply the fix to each citrix server.
Do you need to take the Citrix server "offline", disconnect each user first, change the EMR.ini file and then re-allow users to access it? Or can you just change the file, and have users log off and then back on to see the changes? Trying to minimize the disruption to the users.
Well, sorry for the long delay on responding here. We have attempted several fixes including the ones listed here. While the issues are fewer, the problem is still there. We have trained our offices to change their default printers and as such the IT department aren't getting called as often. We went so far as to try a new printer manager and move away from the windows print server. This was no help at all. The response I am getting from GE is that this is a Citrix issue. However, the issue only occurs with CPS through Citrix and none of the other apps we have published have any printing issues.
If any of you have any ideas I would be appreciative. This issues seems to come and go randomly. I am not sure where to go from here.
Thanks,
Matt Dooley
Question the the EMR.ini or the UseClientName=FALSE default to a different location for EMR 9.8 as oppsoed to CPS. Our EMR.ini doesn't have that line in.
TIA
The EMR Configuration is under the CFW.ini file. Under the [Logician Private] section we have UseClientName=FALSE. I will make the adjustment to see tomorrow if that seems to fix our issues.
