Not sure where to post this but I have a question about how everyone is taking pictures of patients. I have used numerous webcams for this purpose but it seems like they all require administrative rights on the workstation to be able to click on the "acquire" button in CPS 10. I can use the utilities which come with the cameras and take the pictures and save them ont eh hard drive, then import them without admin rights which proves it is CPS that is requiring the additional rights. I am getting push back when introducing this workflow but I don't have enough staff to clean up malware every day so I have to get rid of admin rights.
Just wondering what everyone else's approach is?

If you have the TWAIN driver for the camera, you can use the camera instead of the webcam button to get the photos. This method does not rquire admin rights.
Using the webcam button creates a temp file in the root of the C Drive. Most modern OS's do not give rights to place files there except for Administrator.
Very few webcams on the market today have TWAIN drivers, so pay close attention to what cameras you purchase.
Also most newer webcams capture at high resolution. You will need to set the resolution down so Centricity will be able to save the image.
We had the same issue. GE knows about it but didn't have any fix or workaround for me, short of granting admin rights to all. When CPS takes the photo, it creates a temp file in c:\ called capture.avi. This means that CPS must have write access to c:\. Whoever designed this should be fired. We only have 3 workstations taking pictures so I took the easy way and gave all users local admin rights to those machines. If you find a better way, please let us all know.

You can just give full access to that one file, capture.avi.
The file is deleted just before the MS AVI interface creates a new one for the next capture.
Since it is creating a new file, the rights are back to Read/Execute with no right.
I tried tweaking the persmissions as soon as you guys mentioned c:\capture.avi. I always wondered what that file was and where it came from so thanks for the hint mrnevetz . For now I am instructing users to do the capture from the webcam then import the file as I don't have enough staff to clean up malware infections.
I also emailed a contact at GE hoping he can get something done, like using c:\temp instead of c:\ for the dropbox area. I agree a developer should be fired for such a bonehead move

Due to other issues I was having here with taking photos after scanning, I ended up taking extreme measures by modifying the Get Photo button to launch my own webcam capture program. If anyone is interested in trying out my program they could send me a PM, but it would only work for CPS 10.1.3.300.
