We are trying to give a local Hospital Access to our CPS system, and we would like for them to be able to print to the printer's on their desks. Since we are in a Citrix environment, the printers in Centricity are all installed on the servers (and only in our network)
Is there a way that they can VPN to our system, yet still print to the printers on their local PCs? has anyone else found a way to let outside users print documents out to a printer on a different network?
any thoughts on this are appreciated.
Hello, we do this with the local hospital in town here. We provide them SSL VPN access via a Sonicwall Portal. They log in via a webbrowser and click on the published shortcut to our Terminal server. There is an option when setting up their group to allow the redirection of their client printer. On the server side, we have the Windows Easy printer driver installed so that their printer is an option in Centricity. I hope this helps.

I added the user as a service provider with a fax number and they use the Biscom fax server to print to their own fax.
You imply that these printers are USB printers, but that isn't 100% clear.
If the printers are network printers, and printing through the RDS protocol (or Citrix variant thereof) is not able to redirect printers for some reason (which normally works quite well in Windows RDS), you can do a site-to-site VPN so your servers can reach their network printers. It won't work with local printers (i.e. USB printers) however.
If they are local printers, you might consider setting up a Windows RDS server (FKA terminal server) for them and redirect their local printers through the RDS client. That generally works pretty well.
Thank you guys for such great answers! the printer's are not USB, but are networked. I will look into the options you have mentioned with our staff and the Hospital.
Thanks a million!!!
