I thought I had seen this discussed before, but I don't think I'm very good at using the Search function in this forum.
We wondered how other practices handle the entry of compound meds (cocktails, combined meds, mixes, basically: any medication that is created from a recipe relayed to the pharmacy, ie: 2 parts this + 1 part that).
Does anyone have a process in place for this?
Thanks!
No suggestions but would love to know what everyone else does for these! We currently enter them as uncoded medications which causes issues, especially when attempting to send the medication list through an interface to an in-house lab.
NOT a good long-term solution if you ask me, so I've been searching for other options as well...
We also have them listed a uncoded medications, better to have them on the medication list than not, but not a great solution. If anyone has a better solution please share.
The only solutions we received from GE was to enter a medication add to the knowledge bank, but didn't give any word whether this would get the med or DME item added as a coded item or not. Not a very helpful solution when there are more detailed med/dme lists in other EMR's that are coded and allow for e-scribing as well.
I had the same issue. What we were directed to do was to get the primary ingredient's NDC number so that we could submit it to GE as a medication to be added to the EMR. I contacted are local compound pharmacy to collaborate to create a list to make this happen. Beth
