Are there any large groups out there that have made a final decision to move to CPS from Centricity EMR? Anyone considering other products/vendors? The delay of 9.8 plus MU2 being extended has removed some of the time crunch, certainly.
I'd love to hear what others are planning...
We were thinking of going to CPS 12 from 9.5 but after talking with GE, we didn't get the impression they endorsed that move. There are issues with the migration process and for larger databases you will be down for days (though they really can't tell you how long it will take). And there IS a time crunch with the ICD-10 deadline. With both products not in release yet and the extra work in getting ready to migrate rather than upgrade, and the uncertainty of the migration process, we have gone back to planning to move to 9.8.
Yes, we will have to upgrade to 9.8 for ICD-10 as well. I think you can migrate to CPS11 and then upgrade to 12 for ICD10, but that's not realistic considering timeline.
Beyond 9.8...?
There isn't anything beyond 9.8 at this time. It is the end of the line for the Oracle-based product (unless GE changes its mind). I would see us upgrading to CPS 13 (if the roadmap stays the same) sometime in 2015. CPS 12 if 13 isn't out and there is an MU deadline we need to hit. GE has stated they would like to have everyone off of Oracle at the end of 2015. Always subject to change.
We are a small practice and have been with centricity for 15 years. We explored the costs of migrating to CPS and we are not sure it is worth it. ( can buy another EMR for less than that) My associate wants to explore other emr options and we can not get any information from GE regarding any "professional upgrade fees" 9.8 may have. I think if GE wants to abandon the oracle platform then we should be upgraded to CPS for free.
No disagreement here :).
Has anyone heard anything more regarding possible support for Oracle beyond EMR 9.8??
As far as I have heard, they have backtracked on doing away with it for now. I haven't heard anything definite about an end-of-life as of now. I think there was a lot of push back from large customers and the migration process, at this time, for large customers was problematic. Of course, subject to change.... Didn't hear anything at CHUG this last weekend about Oracle going away.
Thank you.
