All,
We are an ortho clinic who is having some issues with scheduling equally unassigned patients to physicians. I need a way to track this in our system when a patient calls for an issue but doesn't have a physician picked out. My clinic manager wants to add a check box on the registration screen to state they are an unassigned patient. Is there a way to do this, or does anyone have a better solution for me? I have one doctor who thinks he isn't getting the equal amount of patients as someone else in the practice and I want to track the unassigned and who gets them to prove his theory is incorrect.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would like to be able to track this as well.
I don't think you can change the reg screen. We have a custom banner that displays the name of the patient's responsible provider ( {PATIENT.RESPPROVID} ). We also have a user called 'Unassigned, Provider' which can be assigned to new patients or to patients of physicians who have retired and who haven't yet been assigned or haven't picked a new provider. If 'Unassigned, Provider' is selected from the Resp Provider dropdown on the reg screen, it will appear in the banner when the chart is open and when the patient comes in, the receptionists can select the correct provider. I hope this helps or at least gives you some ideas. I haven't tried to run a query or create a report tracking this.
You could do a crystal report/query to return the number of patients assigned to each provider over a given time frame. That will at least give you some retrospective data and allow you to tell staff if they need to adjust. If you take a look at the patientprofile and doctorfacility tables you should be able to find what you need to do it.

We do not track our unassigned patients through Centricity, but rather do it manually through our phone receptionist. When a patient calls in that has never been here before, the receptionist records the patient's name on a spreadsheet and then follows a rotation of our providers as to which one is next scheduled to get the new patient. The only time we stray from the rotation is when the patient calls in for a back problem, then they get automatically routed to our back surgeon.
It would be nice if we could do this rotation feature in Centricity. Hopefully GE will get progressive with this related to Ortho. doctors.
Thanks.
