We have recently upgraded to Centricity 9.5 and are now in need of the EMR 9.5 SP2 patch (which is HUGE). Has anyone installed this patch yet? If so, can you share your lessons learned?
Thank you!
Kim Waddell
I have installed it on a 90gb database which had about 1.2 million obsterms. It took about 3 hours to run start to finish. I really didn't run into any issues with the upgrade following the steps GE sent out. However I would highly recommend applying the patch to a test environment first to ensure it runs correctly.
We were early adopters of SP2. When we upgraded, it took 6-7 hours but our database is 280GB and we have 200 million OBS table rows.
We have had major issues with the SP2 install in production. We had it in Test before and did not find a sporadic issue that causes EMR to crash. Error message: "Encountered an improper argument". It is a known GE issue and they have at least 7 sites connected to the SPR. I would definitely wait to install this patch. I have talked to their support and have encouraged them to pull it's availability.

Hi Jill - Thanks for the heads up!
During what operation is the crash occuring? I'm curious if it can happen at any time or if it seems linked to a specific form component or chart module. We'll be installing SP2 in TEST soon and I want to know what to look out for.
Phone notes, entering HPI, ... It is hard to reproduce and we never saw it in Test. We had about 7 reported just yesterday. A patient even walked out. It appears to only be happening on the PCs and not our VMs.
We have the same problem with the "Encountered an improper argument" message and crash. We are on the same SPR with GE. The crash can happen at any time. We have even had users who only view documents with no data entry have the problem.
I would also not recommend installing SP2 until the issue is resolved. We have had 80 crashes that we know of since our install and as Jill said, it really does affect patient care.
Thank you all so much for your feedback! This is good to know...all of it. We want to avoid any and all problems as our providers and users are already highly frustrated.
I will give this information to our Infrastructure team!

don't recommend installing SP2 at this time. We did last weekend and below are some of the issues we're experiencing:
The EMR is freezing, getting error messages
Partial windows stuck when we close Centricity
Freezing in the middle of an update/transcription
An extra bar at the top of NC
Replaced/Filed in error documents still sitting in the Active folder
I just want to confirm, the excessive crashing is occurring with the thick client install, correct?
This is not being experienced in a Citrix environment?
Conor
Hi Conor,
We are only experiencing the "improper argument" on fat clients. However, we did have a crash on a VM today that was a different error.
The latest from GE is that the argument issue is related to the OS (Windows XP).
Still no solution but a high priority issue for GE.
SP2 has taken up at least 75% of my work load for the past 3 weeks. Arg! 🙂

Is anyone interested in a 30min-1hr conference call to discuss how their SP2 install and testing has gone. Preferably early next week.
If so, PM me or email @ [email protected]
Hello,
I just wanted to share my experience with running SP2 on 3 seperate EMR databases we haven't seen any trouble. However it maybe related to Windows XP as some people have commented. We are fully Windows 7 and Server 2008R2 with Citrix XenApp 6.5. At least with our setup we have not seen any of the application crashes as some of you are describing and has actually resolved a couple of issues we were having pre-SP2.

Here are some items we have currently identified.
We are a Citrix environment.
- Unable to resolve a linklogic error after selecting the correct patient chart. Error displays "Fatal Exception". Requires manual manipulation of the HL7 message. (ePrescribing)
- Unable to resolve a linklogic error after selecting the correct patient chart. Requires manual manipulation of the HL7 message. (inbound Labs)
- Unable to resolve a linklogic error after selecting the correct patient chart. Requires manual manipulation of the HL7 message. (practice management registrations)
- When editing a location of care, the display in the GUI does not display/refresh until user clicks in the box.
- Printing prescriptions - when selecting another printer (not default) the prescription is "squeezed" down. (custom Rx form for Texas)
Has anyone expereinced these items? Or perhaps any comments?
These have been logged with GE, and we await their response.

Quick question on this custom Rx form for texas, is this the one that came from GE or did you have to have someone modify it?
I am in texas also and we are implementing CPS EMR in about 2 months, so wanting to check with you first as to why you have a custom Rx form.
Thanks
