We are going live with the EMR piece of the CPS and our physicians would like to use tablets. Which ones work?
any windows based tablet, or if you use Citrix or RDP, then anyone that you can download the apps for.
If you run it locally instead of via RDP/Citrix you need to make sure your OS is compatible. I don't think EMR is compatible with windows 8/8.1 yet and definatley not win 8rt. We use some HP Elitebook touchscreen laptops that the screen can spin 180* and then close on top of the keyboard. It is not exactly a tablet by todays standards but it seems to work ok for some people.
Also keep in mind that we were told GE does not support running EMR via WIFI connections. If that is still the case and you want to stay with a GE supported solution, you would need to run it via Citrix/RDP. (we run everything this way) Even now, a momentary blip in a network connection causes our EMR to crash on wired connections.
A citrix or remote desktop would be optimal. If you are looking to use a tablet I would suggest anything with a keyboard. I like the windows based units with the keyboards which attach and don't require their own batteries. Surface Pro or Surface 3. Having a keyboard is key... plus the surface keyboards have touchpads... even with touch screens you would be amazed at how often you will use the touchpad as Centricity isn't really designed for fat fingers... I use one every day.
