Does anyone use the formularies/keep up with the KB formulary updates? We would like to start utilizing them, but don't really know where to start.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Use them have always used them and do the KB updates monthly when they are released. Keep our formularies up to date with new meds etc. Important to us for accuracy purposes
First step is requesting an account with the GE Service Portal ( https://engage.gehealthcare.com/community/en/emr). Once you have an account you can download KB updates, patches, service packs, and full upgrades. Release notes are usually provided along with any downloads. You can also sign up to have notifications emailed to you anytime products become available.
We install KB updates monthly and formularies when they are available (had to wait 4 months for our last formulary). We always apply KB updates to our test environment first. Sometimes they negatively impact system functionality and it's better to catch it in test. Also, KB updates are released as full and incremental updates. Full updates are typically quarterly and the incrementals can't be applied unless the last full update has been applied.
If you're a PM only site, then I would say no you don't have to. If you're an EMR site, then you are definitely going to want to run the kb updates as they also include any ICD code changes.
Thank you everyone for the feedback! We do install the KB updates every month, along with the formularies which are part of the incremental packages, however we are not sure how to configure the formularies or set them up? Are they set up per patient, per pharmacy, per medication? Can you assign more than one to a patient, pharmacy or med? I know the formularies have to do with insurance but that is pretty much my extent of knowledge! Thank you again 🙂
