We are hosted through our VAR and having trouble getting the "Get Photo" feature to work in registration.
The feature last worked about 1.5 years ago. It stopped working after an update. It was thought that our computers were too old, which they were, but they worked fine. We finally replaced them, but the "Get Photo" feature still doesn't work.
We are being told that the only way to get it to work would be to buy additional software (such as TSCam). However, we would have to buy it for all of the terminal servers, which means all of their clients would have use of it. They said that none of their other hosted clients are currently using that feature, so it hasn't come up as an issue.
Does anyone else use this feature on a hosted environment? If so, what did you have to do to make it work?
We are currently on CPS 12.2 and upgrading to 12.3 tonight. We are open to any ideas!
In a thin client environment, you typically need special drivers that will allow your locally attached devices (e.g. USB cameras and scanners) to communicate to the terminal servers, so that is why they are recommending TSCam. That said, many of us that have traditional fat client installations of CPS are also having issues acquiring photos directly from USB camera devices using the get photo feature. This is a recent development; the culprit likely being Windows updates not playing nice anymore with the Centricity DLLs that communicate with your USB cameras.
The only fool proof way we have found for capturing pictures is to use the native software that comes with the USB camera and then upload/import the file into the chart manually using the get file feature, which takes a few more steps. If you chose to explore this option, you would not need any special driver software installed on your terminal servers (i.e. no TScam), but I would recommend you set up a common shared area on your network where the picture files would be captured. This would allow you to easily navigate to that location and import the file into the chart. Hope that makes sense.

Something to try before purchasing that software is to see if the issue is not permission related. Check if you have (on the hosted servers) a file called capture.avi in the root of C drive. If I recall correctly it also needs to have modify permission granted to the users that rdp to the servers...
We are on 12.3.2 and we have been using the Get Photo feature for about 2 years now. We started using it when we were on CPS12.0 and in September we upgraded from CPS12.0.13 to CPS12.3.2 and it continues to work without issue.
We tested getting the Picture from a File and Clipboard and they both work great. We decided to go with Snag-It for the purposes of clipping the patients' pictures off of their driver's licenses and using the Clipboard option to put those in the patients' registration. We also grab parents' driver's license pictures for minors and place a label of "Mom", "Dad", "Grandmother", etc. prior to copying the picture to the Clipboard.
While waiting for our HelpDesk guys to install the Snag-It software, some of our users have used the Microsoft Snipping Tool to accomplish this same functionality. Snag-It just has more functionality, which is why we went that route instead of the Snipping Tool.
We are completely a Citrix environment, no fat clients at all.
