Hello,
Our clinic currently has a workflow for patients that want to see their Provider, even without an appointment. as a Patient Centered Medical Home, we try to first get the patient with their primary care provider before suggesting our same -day clinic.
Our current workflow is to fill out a paper-request, and the front desk staff takes this request to the PCP (or to the MA). The PCP can either accept the add-on appointment, or if they feel unable to see an extra patient that day, the patient is offered to be put on the walk-in schedule.
If you are allowing add-on/double booked appointments, how are you managing the requests? some of our providers are very consistent, while some will take 4 extra patients one day, and then refuse all requests the next day. Do you have any software that helps with this communication? even if you have found a good workflow in Centricity, I would love to hear how your team is handling this issue!
Thank you so much,
Daniel Carpenter
Odoro, a self scheduling solution, can handle these tricky workflows for you. If you allow double bookings but only want the double bookings for special reasons then Odoro can recognize the special request and let the patient schedule for that add on slot. This is all done via it's rules that are built out by the client during the deployment.

Hi Danny,
Thank you for the info about Odoro, I have spoken with them at a few conferences before. This issue is not so much about patient scheduling as it is about front desk - Provider communication. We don't have a specific number of open appointments or rules for when this can happen, but instead, the front desk asks the provider if they will take the add-on appointment on a case-by-case basis.
In this situation, sometimes the provider feels like they can take on 4 extra patients, and other times the same provider will take no add-ons. Do you have any suggestions for this kind of issue?
Thanks again!
Daniel Carpenter
