My process - Okay, I am looking through the Reports in CPS for units to observation terms. I have two obs terms that when imported to a chart say they need a unit. When i do not give them a unit, the (?) shows up in the flow sheet. After looking in reports, the observation terms have no units assigned to them.
Question - How do i remove the (?) if there is no listed unit for the obsterm?
If this is manual entry, Can you enter the unit of measure at the time the value is entered? Alternately, you can probably switch to a different obs term which already has a unit of measure defined. Switching obs terms takes some consideration (do you migrate values assigned to the current obs term to the new? If so, could there be observations which do not use the desired unit of measure assigned to the same obs term?)
If this is via HL7, presumably no unit of measure was identified in OBX.6 when the HL7 was received. Since the CPS obs term you are cross referencing to doesn't have a defined unit of measure, that leaves the units of measure ambiguous.
I prefer to map to obs terms that have units defined in CPS where possible. Occasionally it isn't possible, but most of the time I can find one.

I am beginning to see that is my only option to change terms. Main problem is that I am using these obs for reporting and that would make a major change up. I have seen that if i put in a generic unit it will get rid of the (?). Problem with that attempt is then i have this generic unit that shows in my flow sheet. Super frustrating. Would love some form of blank to be able to satisfy this issue.
If I were going to change obs terms to one with an associated unit of measure, I would probably plan to change all of the historical data to the new obs term as well. There may be other ways, but I would do it in SQL.
