Hello,
We are using Oracle EMR and a PM-only solution at our facility. We have 8 PM databases that we need to be concerned about for ICD-10 and I have a question regarding it. Per GE's roadmap the steps they provided are as follows:
1 – Upgrade to CPS v 11x
2 – Enter Enterprise Date for ICD-10
3 – Set Carrier ICD-10 Date
4 – Load ICD-10 Codes
5 – Review / Revise GEM Mappings
6 – Reset Enterprise Date
We are on CPS 11 but I am concerned about steps 4 and 5. We haven't taken a service pack or KB update for CPS in over 4 years. Do we need to apply any updates before 10/1 in preparation for ICD-10? Do we need to update the ICD-10 codes that are already in the system since there may have been more added in the 4 years since we last updated? How can we see what KB/SP we are on in PM? What are they referring to when they see "Revise GEM Mappings"? I have had a ticket open with GE asking these questions but it's been over a week and I'm still waiting for an answer so I'm trying the forum 🙂
Thank you!
How can you avoid SP's and KB Updates? They are crucial to this process. What is holding you back? How are you handling drug interactions, uncoded outdated meds, etc.?
We are current with KB updates and patches for EMR but we use a PM-only model in CPS so just billing and scheduling and no drug interaction or meds are handled on that side.
Are you staying on CPS 11 or going to version 12? We had version 10 and jumped to 12. When we had 10 we hadn't done updates for close to 3 years because we use it for the same reason, just PM. We keep the EMR up to date monthly.
We are staying on CPS 11 for now. We're just wondering if the ICD-10 codes need to be updated with some service pack or update before 10/1?
When you go into CPS, Administration, Codes, Billing System... Do you see Load Diagnosis Codes? That was the way we loaded all of our codes into the CPS side once our CPS 12 upgrade was done.
As for EMR as long as you have the latest KB updates you should be good.
We do see codes available for loading, just not sure if they're all current due to us not updating for so long. I'm guessing when you load the ICD-10 codes it isn't polling from outside the network but instead whatever information was loaded from the last update we did 4+ years ago.
That would be a good question for GE. I don't know if that part of CPS pulls from the outside or if those come with the newest updates for CPS. Either way... I know that there was a time we didn't even do all of our KB updates for the EMR (before I was in this position) and it had been close to 2 years.
We ended up doing the KB updates, and it took close to 6 hours to catch up on 2 years.
