This may be an odd question but does everyone load all of their codes into admin on the CPT/HCPCS update? Being a specialty, i am not really seeing a benefit of adding all the codes but I thought I had always been told to add them all. Thoughts? (I have been doing this way too long to have to ask this question, but I am asking it anyway!)
Thanks!
We only load the codes we need for billing, and have always done it that way. Our billing managers will add new codes either at the request of providers/clinic coordinators or because new codes become available, and then the billing manager lets me know and I add anything necessary in Chart orders. If you don't have the code loaded on the PM side, then if a physician bills it it comes over as a series of question marks instead of the code. I don't know of anything else that 'breaks' if the code isn't loaded on the PM side.
I'm not positive but I think all that does is load codes into DiagnosisSpecialty table. Our DiagnosisSpecialty table is 10.8 million rows, and we don't load much (we have been on CPS for 20 years though). So I would imagine if it were a lot bigger you could experience a performance hit wherever the application uses this information.
I hope that helps!
It does! Thanks- last practice I was at had the billing manager do this as well. I think that is why I was lost a bit since we don't have a billing person that loads these where I am currently. I will follow up internally with what should be done but I agree, why add them if we don't need them! Thanks!
