We are finding more and more patients have different names on legal ID vs what is on the insurance card. We have always gone by what is on the insurance card so we can get claims paid, but are running into more issues with hosptials and other facilities requiring legal name. I know we can change the insurance tab to reflect 'other' and put insured name but didn't know if anyone else is doing this. does it cause any claims issues? How are others handling the name mismatch issue?
On a similar subject, we also have mostly Medicare patients where the DOB is wrong. But the only way to get claims paid is to file with wrong DOB. Most patients know it and will tell us, but don't seem to grasp how to fix it.
Thanks for any insight.
Not very helpful but we've always us the Insurance Card name same as you. I'll ask our Patient Accounts Department if we are having the same issue.
I do know we have the same with Medicare patients. I'm pretty sure we have a hand out we give out explaining how to make changes if they are needed.
