I work for a practice that has multi-specialties. We have ENT, Sleep, Neuro-Ophthalmology and Allergy. We get a lot of patients who start with an ENT, get referred to Allergy and might also see a sleep specialist. My problem is that when there is an internal referral, the letter going out needs to be addressed to the consult physician. That seems easy, however, If a patient is referred by Dr. R to see ENT specialist Dr. E and Dr. E refers the patient to see Allergist Dr. A, in the registration, the Responsible provider, Referring and possibly the PCP boxes are already filled. Dr. E sends his consult letter to the referring physician Dr. R and then Dr. E refers the patient to Allergist Dr. A Dr. A would evaluate the patient and then need to send their consult letter back to Dr. E. This means they have to get into the registration, remove the referring Dr. R, add to the referring box Dr. E, save, create the letter in CPS 12.3 and then sign the letter. The letter is set to automatically get sent out at night via magic fax at 10:30 pm.
We have more issues than this one, but this is confusing enough as it is. If anyone from a multi-specialty practice has a solution or wants to explain what they do and what their process is I would really appreciate it.
