Hello,
I am inquiring some insight on the Medication Custom List. All of our inhalation meds. that are entered in a custom medication list, will auto default to inhalation in the Quantity section. When we have QTY 1 Inhalation Refills 1 it becomes confusing to the receiving pharmacy. We would like canister to auto default when appropriate, just like a capsule or tablet would. This is only visible when the medication is being E-scribed. If any one has suggestions, it would be much appreciated!
Thank you!
Our users are doing this currently, I was wondering if there was a way to set this in the custom medication list so the providers are not having to change this every time. We made the custom medication lists to make it faster to prescribe but the users are still having to edit the med when E-prescribing. Thank you for the response!
I haven't found any way to do this. I would agree that it is confusing and annoying.
I believe that when you are initially adding the medication if you type "1 inhaler" it will move the "inhaler" to the appropriate location (as otherwise it isn't even there by default and you need to select the "More" option and then scroll down and find it in the long list.
When you go to refill a prescription it will generally use the units you entered the last time if they were entered.
Oh man, we have been around and around on this and finally started a ticket with Virence. Long story short - there is not a way to default to the right "quantity qualifier."
Here is the extremely helpful response from Tim McGinnis at Virence earlier this year:
I received a response back from MediSpan. Their response is that they follow NCPDP Billing Standards for quantity qualifier values and include these as part of the medication reference list data they provide Virence Health with. MediSpan also said, which I don’t disagree with, it’s up to the CPS product to display those quantity qualifier default options in the selection list.
I this last part contradicts what I was told by the Clinical SMEs, which is the default list of quantity qualifiers comes from MediSpan and what is being displayed. CPS does however provide the option to select the desired quantity qualifier by clicking the ‘More’ option in the selection list, which is what clinicians should be doing if they do not see the desired quantity qualifier in the initial list.
With this information in mind, I think the best way to move forward with this case is for it to be attached to the existing enhancement request knowledge article 35261 “ENHANCEMENT REQUEST: Please add a field for quantity qualifier when adding New Medication Custom lists”, which I have done.
Next, I think it would be helpful to have you submit an completed enhancement request form, asking that the ability to specify quantity qualifiers for medications in a Medications Custom Lists be added to the product.
