Hi All,
First off we are 9.8.6 EMR users
We've recently been working on an order interface with a local Laboratory and have noticed that GE seems to, almost at random, send HL7 messages for orders that have already been placed (and have therefore already "gone" across the interface) causing duplicate (or new if the original has already been processed) orders in the Lab system. We've put some code to try to catch these in the interface engine but it is still puzzling, and troubling.
At first I ran audits on the order/patient around the time we saw the duplicate HL7 message generate and (or so I thought) pegged it to reprinting the order req. However, on further analysis, we couldn't routinely trigger an HL7 message from just a reprint of the order req.
Additionally we kept auditing the patients/orders that this was happening with and noticed it was not always related to printing - ruling out (potentially) that I/we were just missing a step the users were doing when reprinting.
Finally a GE engineer actually got one to trigger just moving between tabs in the chart while on a call.
My question is: has anyone experienced this before or have any idea what may be happening? With all of the technical work GE has to do on major projects like the CQR I am afraid this will "go away" and we will remain spinning our wheels - I figured asking here couldn't hurt and maybe others have seen this.
Thanks,
Mike
Thank you for the response, we will take a look at this. We are using the standard EMR linklogic export for the order. I will update this thread if we can ever pinpoint:
1. Whether or not this is our issue
2. If it isn't what it was
3. Any movement/feedback/resolution from GE.
Thanks,
Mike
