Hi guys,
I've been trying to implement the patients pictures at my office, but the cameras only work with emr if I'm logged on as an administrator (windows admin), when I log on as a regular domain user I get the error "failed to acquire image from device".... I've tried giving the users full control over the EMR folder, also elevating the user to power user and nothing, it only was if you run the EMR as an administrator..... has anybody else run into this issue? and if so what is the work around, it's obviously a permissions issue, but I cannot find which files the program is trying to access, oh and by the way, it happens with any camera, internal or external.
Use camera instead of webcam.
Ensure you have the twain driver installed for your camera.
What camera's are you using?
I"m using dell all in one computers with integrated cameras and also a logitech HD webcam, I don't think they have twain drivers, but that's a good subjection let me see if I find them.
With the Logitech, download one of the very old driver sets (Pre 11.x)
Install it. It has a Twain driver that works with every one of there cameras that I have tried.
As for the Dell, check who the actual manufacturer is. You should be able to get one from there.
Another trick is to create a blank text file in the root of C: called capture.avi. Give Everyone "all rights". Sometimes that circumvents the need for users to be admins. I know it works with our Logitech cameras.
@davidShower..... Thanks for the tip...... But, what do you mean "root of C:" which folder are you referring to?
C:\ is the Root of C.
Just so you know, GE is working on this for CPS as we discussed at the Palm Desert CHUG conference last fall. The only problem is that while it seems like an easy problem to address, it is actually quite the pain. I have been begging for a solution (as have others here). There was a SR assigned to it although I don't know it off hand. It was a CPS SR issue which is definitely the same issue reported here where capture.avi is written to c:\ which requires administrative rights.
I am not sure why but the fake capture.avi with full access/everyone only worked for a short period of time then broke again for us

We ran into that same issue as well. We tried the capture.avi work around as well however; it was a no go for us. Our Privacy and Security Office will not allow us to put regular users into the Local Admin group ... to many chances to infect a PC and subsequently the network.
We ended up just using the Logitech Webcam software and saved the picture to a network share and just imported it into the EMR as a file. We then set up a login script to purge the pics when the users logged in the next day so we didn't have to worry about the pictures taking up to much space on the network shares. We also configured the Webcams to the lowest capture rate so we didn't have a huge file size and have to crop the picture.
We have been using the Logitech C310 Webcams. We started with the cameras but the constant plugging and unplugging of the micro USB cables were causing them to break rather quickly so the Webcams were a great alterative .... and cheaper too!
Thank you for your help guys, basically the capture.avi worked for me on one work station the other ones it did not (no idea why not, absolutely same P.C, same setting and user) so basically I'm going to leave that work station alone and for the other ones do what @hammer6b is doing at his practice and take the pictures and then import them to the charts, I can't believe GE hasn't found a solution for this, the guy who helped me with my ticket told me that this issue has been opened for fixing since 2013 or something like that, it's ridiculous, it should not be that difficult.
Again thank you guys for your help.
