For those of you who are using cameras or cell phones to take pictures of patient wounds/surgical sites and the like, how are you moving them from your devices to a location where they can be attached to the chart. And who is responsible for doing this process and when is it done (end of day, real time)? Is anyone using a cloud based options?
Thanks,
Alicia Easton
We only use cameras at our facilities - not cell phones. We download the pictures right from the camera into the PC using a multi purpose card reader that allows their medical records staff to pull this into Kryptiq (where we store all our scanned documents) and import it right into the patient chart. This way, its stored with all the EMR scanned documents and we can dont' have to worry about exporting it to a drive on a PC and then indexing. The picture on the camera is automatically deleted from camera once it is downlaoded into Kryptiq. Process works really well. It is usually done by the medical records staff at the facility. The camera is also facility specific and is only used for this purpose.
We do the same import pictures with Kryptiq now Surescripts Document Management. Same process and mtooley. Camera is used only for this.
We have a similar process to mtooley. We have a dedicated in office only camera. You're opening yourself up to potential security issues with cell phones. We load the photos into the scanning folder and attach to the EMR document and then delete the photos from the camera's card. The only place the photo should be stored is on a secure server.
