Hi,
We are a long time EMR user (1999) and we're looking at moving to the integrated CPS model. Currently is I run large reports (Crystal) against the database during business hours we can experience performance issues, not to mention it take the report longer to run. Is this similar on CPS and/or is there any option to have a "reporting database" that anyone is using?
Thanks
Pat
CPS 10 is dramatically slower than the other EMR flavors, i'll assume you are on 9.2? We also use Crystal here in house and the reports need to be run at night. We also needed to upgrade Crystal to version 11 i believe.
Would you be hosting the application? What's your server layout?
I'm only asking because the requirements are much higher for CPS than EMR.
We're on EMR 9.5, 64 bit 08R2. I use Crystal 2008 for reporting. We are hosting it so we'd need a new SQL server, I can get it as robust as I need to. We currently use Citrix so we can still use those servers. Is there an option for a separate/duplicate reporting database?
The best way is to split everything. I have a virtual environment but we got a nice SSD 24-core server for the DB. Jboss, DTS, Kryptiq, E-script, Crystal all got their own dedicated servers to aide with performance (a big issue with CPS 10).
Everything we have is 2008 R2, including SQL.
The big pain is performance, CPS 10 is SLOW. There are a ton of unnecessary DB read/writes that bog it down. GE is "fixing" that with a patch on 9/24, but then again...they said SP2 would fix a ton as well back in July.
We run both FAT and citrix clients. I had to build out 3 application servers for citrix to bring performance up to par (roughly 60-70 sessions at peak hours). Our FAT clients are quad core, 4 GB ddr3 windows 7 boxes.
I still experience:
- chart crashing
- chart loads ranging from 20-35 seconds (slow for a doctor waiting with patients)
- SQL errors daily
- SQL jobs failing
- CPS just crashing unexpectedly with no error
We also currently have JBoss, DTS & e-RX on separate servers as this was a performance issue with EMR 9.5 We don't have any FAT clients and only run 30-40 sessions per Citrix server. How many providers do you ahve and how big is your database?
roughly 25 providers (residents come and go). DB is about 80 GB
How long have you been a CPS user?
Since before my time. 1997 i believe was our initiation.
Wow. So if you were starting "fresh" with CPS 10 what would you do different?
not install it. i figured waiting for 2 service packs would resolve larger issues. i was very wrong though. i call GE for help and they say "wait for the patch" rather than assist.
They do not fix anything... they make things worse, we pay them tons of $ for use to get no support. This is why I find my own ways around things to get them to work...
Well that's disappointing but we had similar problems w/ EMR 9.5 sp2 causing crashes. It was finally resolved in sp3. So better the devil you know or the devil you don't? Are any EMR companies really better than any other......?
it's all the same in my opinion. it's definitely not a perfected art
