Do you print individual labels from your PM or EMR? What hardware do you use? Do you have to buy special label paper? What size of label do you use?
We are looking to print labels (quantity on demand so we don't waste a full sheet of labels per patient) with the following:
Patient Name and DOB:
Provider:
DOS:
BLANK SPACE TO HAND-WRITE IN INFO (such as specimen, lot number, etc)
Anyone else do something similar? Can you make any recommendations? We can make the crystal report, but we don't want to make it until we know the output workflow.

Hello,
We do almost exactly that for the purpose of auto-indexing images with IndxLogic. We use a PM Crystal report (although you could just as easily do a chart crystal report) and use Dymo 450 Label Writers to print one patient at a time. Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions.

Angela, did you get a report that works for you? If not, let me know and I can post here or feel free to email me [email protected]. We had medical record number instead of provider as it goes to our in house lab but I can change to responsible provider. Not sure if I can grab document's provider but I can look if that is what you need.
Mike, I'm curious, do you use Citrix? I had created a report and actually named it the same as the mailing label report because we didn't use the mailing label and that way they don't have to choose the patient - we also use as specimen label. It is the only way I know of unless you can call from a form with the pt pre-selected?
We have another one that has specific info for our allergy practice that lists contents of the vial but they need to go out to reports and select patient and dos for that one. Our only hang up was the Citrix set up. We had someone in that finally got it set up but as a local which requires set up for each printer on each server in the farm. We have Zebra label printers 420d, Oracle EMR, Windows 2008 R2, Citrix 6.5 I think. Just wondering if you had different/better experience with the other brand of label printer.

Would you mind sharing you report? We've been asked for labels and are trying to figure out how to provide them - we've never used the mailing labels either as far as I know.
