I have a form I developed that ties in with the protocols built in GE. I have a protocol for example for a COLONOSCOPY due every 10 years. I would like to create a check box if the patient has had TOTAL COLECTOMY. I would like it to remove them from the form and from needing a COLONOSCOPY, without using the COLONOSCOPY OBS term as this is messing up or PQRS data.
Any ideas????

I am a little hazy on how you are using the protocols in tandem with your form. Did you want the checkbox to hide section's of the form, or to satisfy the protocol in the PROTOCOLS section of the chart?
I would find another OBS Term, such as "TTLCOLECTOMY" to mark a total colectomy was done, and have the checkbox fill that value in with "TRUE" or "Done" as the value. you can then search for this in the protocol or in the form to hide sections using visibility fields.
I do not know if any of these are custom (i don't think so) but in our protocols report we use the following obs terms (all 3) to negate the need for a COLONOSCOPY.
COLONRECACT
TTLCOLECTOMY
PMHCOLONCANC
How do you have your protocols set up with those OBS terms? Can you please share with me?
I want either a checkbox for Total Colectomy, if the user checks Total Colectomy then the Colonposcopy and or FOBT would be satisfied on the form that I built.
We currently do not have our protocols setup based on any contraindications. The only place we use the COLONRECACT, TTLCOLECTOMY, PMHCOLONCANC are in a custom report I created to report on protocols.
GE's protocol logic is very flawed. For example, you can tell it to look at whether the patient has had a Mammo in the last 2 years and you can also have it look for Bilat Masectomy obs term as well, but you can not specify a different date range for that obs term so you would either need to add the bilat masectomy every couple of years as a new observation, or after the 2 year mark it will prompt the doctor to order a Mammo again.
We don't mind addressing it every 2 years or whatever the protocol is set to. We just want the protocol to be satisfied at the time the provider is on our Quality form. I can send you the form to look at if that would help.
We have a data field at the top that pulls in the following:
{LISTPROTOCOLSHORT()}
Are you asking for help developing the form logic or the protocols logic? I am not a form developer so I cant help you with that but if you go to your protocol settings (in EMR it is under Go->Setup->Settings->Chart->Protocols all you would have to do is add the second (or 3rd, 4th, 5th) obs terms under the protocol you are trying to setup.
