We have wondered if there is any way to restrict who can print a prescription. In CPS, you can create an Rx with one someone else's name (authorized provider) and print it without that provider even seeing the Rx. We think this might just be a bad idea!
Thoughts? I don't see anywhere to change permissions for Rx printing.
Thank you,

A couple of things,
1) CPS tracks who prints the Rx, along with the authorizing provider (as the Rx is signed when printed), so you should have some audit capability in that respect.
2) We recently implemented security printer paper for scheduled drugs. We did so by adding a second locked paper tray to our printer and using security settings on the printer and access controls on the print server (Active Directory rights) which now only allow providers to print to the special paper. We could further limit access to the printer by placing the printers on their own network vlan and only allowing the print server access to print to them (to prevent someone from printing straight to the IP of the printer which would allow them to choose the secure paper tray).
Thanks,
Jake
I modified the crystal report file used for prescriptions to have it look at the authorizing provider. If the selected user is valid, then it prints normally. Otherwise, it hides all sections of the report except the header, then displays a section saying something like, "There was an error printing this prescription". If the pharmacy gets one of those, they will see our clinic name and number in the heading and call us to see what's going on. If we print them, then the nurse or MA will see right away that it didn't print correctly.
