my recommendations are to try to Update your .net framework, even possibly installing .net 4, but make sure you do have the latest 3.5 installed as well.

it looks like, unless Microsoft has sent out new updates, we have both 3.5 and 4 installed and updated as well.
thanks again for all the advice.
After reading posts online you might have to install them
So we may have experienced this issue in our Citrix environment. Print spooler kept stopping and chart would hang, throwing a similar error in the logs.
in the emr.ini file you can tweak the print values, by default "USECLIENTNAME" = False
this relates to local printing. if you change it to "true" it uses the local client to print. so here our thin clients have a printer mapped to it, CPS will use the thin client to handle printing when the value is true. The spooler was failing because somewhere along the line CPS and terminal services would have an issue communicating and the spooler would hang
Changed this setting throughout my citrix farm and I've never had a spooler crash since, then Chart started working normally

I will look at manually finding and installing any updates for these two version of dot net. thanks.

We have to use CLIENTNAME = TRUE otherwise printing gets really crazy and all of a sudden one provider is printing at a printer somewhere across the state, so as a general rule we always use the true option, but alas we still have this problem. We are also terminal services and not citrix though.

We had an issue with this on a few machines and discovered that if we disbled the Tablet PC Input Service it cured this issue.
I disabled the Tablet PC Input Service on the problem systems, and it seemed to fix things. The issue I still have is that one of the PCs is a tablet pc, and needs this service enabled. Has anyone been able to get CPS 9.5 working on a Win 7 tablet pc?
Thanks,
Nitin
Regarding disabling the tablet pc input, I have exhausted efforts with Microsoft, GE, and my reseller's tech support and there is no fix for this. I have to carry a Bluetooth keyboard around with my Asus Eee Slate to use CPS, which really defeats the purpose of having a touch based tablet. I to would live to find a solution to this. Good luck and let me know if you do.

That's really dissapointing. Wireless tablet computers are a major part of our clinical workflow, especially with regard to our physicians. It seemed to work well with EMR 6.1, and this is why we began incorporating tablet pcs in our workflow. It looks like with our upgrade to CPS 9.5, we'll have to change our workflow, and physicians don't always work well with change.

we have started using iPads as our tablet computers and it appears to be working well so far, a few glitches here and there, but the providers really like the built in dictation software which allows them to dictate directly into chart notes etc.
Recommend using terminal server or Citrix on this hand held devices
Hello,
Sorry to revive this post again, but I couldn't quite tell what the solution for this issue was. I am having a problem on a Win 7 x64 system where I'm running the full CPS 9.5.1 client when I go the launch the chart module (I know I'm way behind. Hopefully we'll update to CPS 11 before year end). What seems to be happening is that when I launch the chart module, the print spooler seems to get hung up, and it seems that the ml.exe process is waiting for the spooler service for it to start. I can get back to the CPS main screen (and any PM component), by killing the ml.exe process, and all of the PM component modules seem to work well. However, printing is messed up many times after I do this. What is perplexing me is that this computer was working fine, and then all of a sudden began happening on this computer about a month ago. Also, we have the exact same computer with the same configuration right next to this computer, and this problem never started to happen on it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled CPS a couple of times, and I've also reinstalled the OS on the computer, but the problem still occurs when launching the EMR module. This question may have been answered above, but if someone can explain to me again how they resolved this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Nitin
Nitin,
In my experience the issue is HP print drivers. We have removed almost all HP printers from our systems, and ran a bunch of windows updates / hotfixes that seemed to help the issue.
THESE TWO HOTFIXES DO INSTALL AND CLEAR UP SOME ERRORS ON THE SERVER:
it remains to be seen if it fixes the underlying problem or not
Rollup to printing core in windows 7 / server 2008
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2647753
Clear up event ID 602 in Event Viewer > Application and Service Logs > Microsoft > Windows > PrintService
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2457866
After removing HP printers / drivers and running these hotfixes + other windows updates we have nearly eliminated the problem. The only server we see it on is the one which still has HP printers.

I'm having a similar issue where the chart component start's to open and then closes right away, however I am having this problem on a Win 7 x64 client. And the same thing where there is no problem with the PM part. Also, this is only happenning on a few Win 7 x64 systems. The rest of them work ok, but I can't find what the differences between the client systems where CPS chart works, and the systems where it doesn't work. I'll try loading the hotfixes that were listed, but I didn't have to do any manual hotfix installs on the sysetms that do work. Whatever needed to be updated was taken care of with windows update. I've even tried running windows update manually to see if anything needs to be downloaded and installed. Does anyone have insight into this? I've been 'banging my head' with this for the whole week trying to figure it out.
Thanks,
Nitin
Also check your installed printers and print spooler, as this sounds like the exact problem we are facing.
Thanks Joshua,
A couple questions. Should I the uninstall all of the printers, then try adding them again? Also, what should I check with the print spooler?
Nitin
I have not found any way to make HP printers work with our Centricity Installs. We removed them entirely from out environment, except in a couple of cases where we have no control over the printers in use.
Not sure what you are looking for on the spooler front. for us it would stop working and stop responding in a timely manner, if you look at the first few posts you can see the exact event log entries regarding it. We had found that the chart module not loading coincided with the print spooler crashing and going unresponsive.
in order to "fix" this we applied windows updates, especially the two mentioned above, and removed all HP printers from our environment.
Hi Nitin,
Have you tried changing your printer drivers. I've found that using older drivers sometimes helps in fixing the spooling issues. We used to use the HP4100 driver, or the LaserJet 4 but were forced to start using the HP Universal Printer Drivers when moving to a 64 bit environment. We haven't had the same troubles that Josh has run into with HP printers, as we are exclusively using HP.
