Good afternoon,
We are planning on upgrading to CPS 12 soon and I'm wondering how other groups have handled training staff on what's new? Did you work with portions of the What's New in CPS 12 guide? Did you set up a demo database for staff to practice on and for group training? Print out screenshots from a demo database? Thank you for your input and feedback!

We always upgrade a copy of our database in advance for training usually as soon as the product is released. That helps to get an idea how long the actual upgrade will take for planning purposes. Using a copy of our database also helps in the event that there may be some oddities or corruption on the data which could cause the eventual upgrade to fail. Once it is upgraded, we test the plug-ins, 3rd party apps, existing computer hardware and we also train the staff on known new features and differences. We do check here in the user group to see about challenges and possible workarounds to known issues which we know we will encounter once we do upgrade. We set up as many workstations as necessary for users to work on as they practice but usually less than 5 workstations. We make sure we get key users to spend time with the scheduling, billing, reports, insurance on the PM side, also in the templates, reports, attachments, etc on the EHR side of things. Some of the staff is trained in a conference room with a projector where they can interact and ask questions of the person who is doing the training.

Thanks Mike! We have also done many of those same things in past upgrades. I appreciate your response!
