Wanted to ask what approach you are taking to updating forms that have, for example, buttons that currently use MEL_ADD_PROBLEM. If the ICD-9 code doesn't map directly to an ICD-10 code, are you going to switch to opening a custom list and having the provider choose which code? Or doing something like a dropdown of choices and then use MEL_ADD_PROBLEM? I'm leaning towards custom lists. My example is ICD-305.1. CMS calls is NONDEPENDENT TOBACCO USE DISORDER and GE calls it TOBACCO USE DISORDER and we are adding it as the CMS description. We have a button that will add this, but our compliance department gave me a list of 10 different ICD10 codes that should be used instead of that one code. I created a custom list with those 10 and added 5 more (the original 10 were for cigs and smokeless and I added the same codes for other types of tobacco).
I know I'm going to run into a lot of other scenarios. What have you run into and how are you "fixing" it?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks so much!
We hope that the improved problem search functionality in 9.8.10 will eliminate the need for custom MEL_ADD_PROBLEM buttons in forms.
The sheer volume of codes in ICD-10 makes custom buttons cumbersome.
