Would you recommend paying GE to do this upgrade or is it pretty much a typical upgrade? They have quoted around $6500 to do an after-hours install.
Also, can we upgrade our demo databases to CPS 11 without affecting the production databases just for testing purposes?
Thank you,
Cliff
I am interested in how big your facility is because we are about 50 providers and maybe 250-300 users and they quoted us a different amount. Also we were told if we did the upgrade ourselves and anything went wrong they would say it was because we did it.
If you've done upgrades in the past, you would probably be okay doing this one, though I'm not sure which version you're on now. We did our own from CPS 9.5 to 11, and we didn't really run into any issues. I would highly recommend testing the upgrade first if you have the infrastructure environment to support it. Worst case, if you run into issues with the test, you could have GE upgrade production.
We are very small, only 25 providers. We have also only been live since November 2012 so our databases should be very small.
Mitch, you're saying we can upgrade our demo databases without affecting the production database or client?
Our demo and production databases are on the same server and we have one app server and one db server.
Thank you,
Cliff
If you only have one app server, then I wouldn't do that. There are some changes to jboss server that may cause your old version to not work if you do it that way. You can easily upgrade the demo database or even create a new demo db on the same sql server. Biggest issue is going to be doing it on the same app server.
Do you have a extra pc that you could throw Win 2008 R2 on temporarily for a test app server? It doesnt have to be very big or beefy for testing purposes. Then you could test without having to mess with your production app server.
It is what I did and worked perfectly. You could even take a back up of your live database and restore it to a new db instance and do a test upgrade on it.
We are attempting to do the upgrade in a test environment. I was told today we need a test license even though it is on a test network. We are currently on cps 9.5 with SQL 2008 SP2. GE's documentation indicated we need to be on SQL 2008 R2. I created a new sql server, copied the old CPS 9.5 db files over, but have been unsuccesful having the web application connect to the new sql server. We have seperate database and application servers.
Our staff focussing on this are my supervisor (part time network admin) and myself (DBA/data analyst). Is it really a matter of a test license?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have a separate webserver for 11?
Also you can request a test license from GE. It took me about a day to get it.

Ernie,
We cloned our webserver and placed it in our test network environment.
