I am trying to use the Section Heading Titles to emphasize a section by changing the formatting for the section, i.e., BOLD, Larger Font, Underline, etc. But, when the form is presented in CPS, the base font remains the same (Arial 8) and it never gets bolded. The underline will work but none of the other formatting options.
Is there a bug within VFE and CPS that will not present the form section heading in the formatting style configured in the VFE form editor?
Thoughts???
I talked with Lee Cooper about this and here is what he said:
I believe it is a defect/limitation of the EMR. The limitation seems to be tied to the differences in appearance between skinned (blue hue) and non-skinned versions of form draws in the EMR.
Un-skinned forms - All font features *should* be supported. Any 'failure' is most probably EMR side. Before skinning was introduced, these worked 100%.
Skinned forms - Font features are NOT supported and text is limited to 8pt, bold, inverted color on a system generated blue background.
These rules hold fast regardless of what is created in VFE.
I believe Dr. Thompson (creator of VFE) had tried to work around the issue but was unable to do so. I am copying him here for additional comment.
Note: I rarely use the section headers for this reason and use the more configurable header item instead. More importantly, this approach produces a more consistent presentation regardless of skinning setting in the EMR - something to consider. I only build in the skinned view within VFE for consistency between the two form presentations possible in the EMR.

I'll update this if I hear anything else that might be helpful.
As noted above, the Centricity (now athenahealth) development team broke the ability to display section headings with different fonts. This used to be supported. At one point GE added "skinning" of encounter forms and that broke this functionality. Most of that "skinning" has been removed in the latest versions of the EHR, but the ability to change the font for section headings is still broken.
I have reported this to the development team a number of times as a defect. I would certainly encourage you to do the same.
The main advantage of section headings is that the heading appears as part of the group box for the section which is a nicer appearance.
