Good morning, we would like to find out if anyone is currently using VM Ware View for virtual desktops? If so, how does it handle printing? Any issues to be aware of? Also, how does it handle Brentwood apps, if you use Brentwood?
We are having a horrible time with Citrix so we are exploring some other solutions. We already use VM Ware for our virtual servers.
Thanks for any insight anyone may have.

I deployed VMView 5.2 for our administration and finance departments using linked clones so I can update one image and deploy it to all of the management team. I also deployed it to a few machines in lab as standard vm's (not linked clones) Only 20 view machines thus far. Some use CPS pretty heavily and we don't have printing issues to speak of. There were some lessons learned as far as setting up the desktop vm for performance, but VMWare has some good documents on this.
For our patient care staff and providers, we use plain old terminal services on 2008R2. We don't have printing issues there either. I created a printer script for each department that they use if they change departments and it also sets the registry keys for the reports in Practice Management such as labels. There is one change in the emr.ini file that prevents all sorts of issues with printing in EMR and that is UseClientName=TRUE as this will use the rdp client (thin client's) computer name for storing printer info. Since terminal services work well for us, we probably won't deploy VM View (Horizon) to the rest of the staff due to licensing costs. An RDP license is much cheaper than VM View + Windows yearly subscription license.
Thanks,
Jake
