We have recently upgraded from CPS 9 to CPS 10. Since our upgrade, we have had great difficulty with our eRx functionality. Examples include:
- We began receiving an error message when submitting eRx ("instruction was not understood"). GE initially informed us that message was generated because we could no longer use abbreviations in instructions (e.g., po, bid, etc.). We began spelling out everything and have continued to find eRx's that will not go through, along with some scripts that WILL go through, even though we ARE using abbreviations.
- We have also been told that the instructions field has a character limit, which could be the reason why our eRx's are not processing. We are in the process of trying to determine what that character limit is, but if anyone knows, we would greatly appreciate the info.
- We have also had instances when the "instruction not understood" message is displayed, and the eRx can still be sent electronically... other times it cannot.
- When trying to electronically send a new Rx, you click on the “send Rx’ button, but it does not show in the document text that the Rx went through to the pharmacy. It used to say “Electronically sent to [Pharmacy name/location]”. There are several work-arounds that make it appear as it should, like putting document on hold and then getting back in, or clicking “refill meds” button, but these are not practical options. We have called the pharmacies on some of these prescriptions, and sometimes they are receiving (even if not stated in the document) and sometimes they are not.
We have had so much difficulty with eRx that staff are beginning to avoid using and going back to paper scripts.
Are other CPS10 users experiencing problems with the eRx function? If yes, have you figured out how to resolve and do you have any advice on how to fix? If no, are you currently using abbreviations in your eRx instructions and are you aware of a character limit in your instructions? Thanks!
We have issues but nothing like that. What software are you using to e-Rx?
We are using the standard GE eRx tool within CPS10. Is that what you're asking?
We use Kryptic Eprescribe, haven't used their generic one
We recently upgraded from v9.2 to v9.5 and the instructions are an 'enhancement'. We were told that although it states the instructions could not be understood, the RX would still be sent. We haven't been notified of any that weren't sent due to the instructions; however, during testing I found that we had to be very specific so the "instructions were not understood" icon wouldn't appear. Do you have examples of instructions that weren't understood? Maybe see if you can make them more detailed.
We used to have an issue with medications going over 2000 characters and causing errors. I don't work with our forms but believe it had something to do with pushing the medications to an obs term (med change obs term). Once we removed it, we haven't had a problem that I'm aware of.
We have recently noticed a problem with our refills for Walmart Pharmacy going to the wrong location. I checked in E-prescribe and it shows the correct location, but we have received calls from the pharmacy stating the refill went to a pharmacy in Florida. Anyone else having this problem?
