My organization is trying to come up with a workflow re: the Release of Info, Privacy Policy, and Benefit Assignment consents in the Additional tab of Patient Registration when a patient is being seen for a telehealth visit.
This isn't a problem for our in clinic appts as the front desk catches it upon check in but we are struggling to figure something out for our telehealth appts. Are you getting these consents verbally? Or are you having the patient come in to sign these in person (which seems to defeat the entire purpose of being seen via telehealth.)
Any suggestions or guidance is greatly appreciated.
We have been getting verbal and consent and updating the HIPAA fields in Registration as:
"Source" (for signature) as Signature generated by provider because the patient was not physically present for services
Then for the "Release of Pt Info" we adding as Informed consent to release medical information for conditions or diagnoses regulated by federal statutes. The description in CPS says: Required when the provider has not collected a signature AND state or federal laws do not require a signature be collected. So we figured that was the best option.
The Privacy Policy is not required to bill claims, so we are leaving that field blank until they physically come into the office.
Assignment we are updating to "Assigned".
