This question is for sites that are using the aethnaPractice Patient Portal (I guess that's the name now). Per Texas laws, we have our age of emancipation set at 13. I would like to know what others may have done to handle teenagers prior to the age of 18 and parent/guardian access.
Our competitor in town has an EPIC system and their portal will give parents/guardians limited access such as immunizations, they cancel/request/confirm appointments, Update insurance information, view advanced directives so for their teenagers they have them sign a form giving the parent/guardian access and at age 18, that proxy is revoked which works much like the emancipation setting in our portal.
Would love to hear what others are doing? Is anyone not using Family management that have children in their practice? If so, how does that work exactly?
Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
Linda
My clinic is also located in Texas and uses the same portal. We have the parent come back into the clinic with the child and regenerate the child's PIN. The child then signs a consent for the parent to be given access back to the child's record. The consent is scanned into the child's record.
