Job Description:
The Health Information Systems (HIS) Director is responsible for partnering with business, clinical and IT teams to ensure our healthcare delivery application solutions meet the needs of the practice. Using the ability to transition seamlessly from strategic to tactical planning and execution, this consummate leader will help in the acceleration and adoption of enhanced functionality with core applications and complementing solutions. Critical to our success, there is a required focus on ensuring the team has advanced knowledge and skills of the application platforms and complementing technologies and a broad, and at times, deep understanding of operational roles and workflows. The leader will be responsible for creating an environment conducive to advancing the teams’ knowledge through ongoing learning and professional development. Tactical responsibilities include managing the maintenance, improvement, project implementation and training of Raleigh Neurology’s Health Information Systems; primarily the EHR, AthenaPractice (formerly GE Centricity), and related products. Responsibilities also include monitoring upcoming requirements and new technologies to make forward thinking suggestions to the business that are in compliance with government and payer requirements. Expertise in building and nurturing relationships is critical to the overall success of this position.
Essential Job Duties:
- Maintain healthy relationships with customers (business and clinical teams) and partners (IT team, outside vendors, industry contacts, etc.).
- Ensure mission, vision and the application roadmap is continuously and effectively communicated throughout the organization.
- Maintain an in depth knowledge of current practice EMR (AthenaPractice) and related products.
- Manage, train and provide leadership to HIS department’s team members in order to ensure the group thrives in their support of Raleigh Neurology’s application and solutions needs. Assign responsibilities so that service and projects are completed in a timely manner.
- Work closely with the Information Technology Department to maintain and update AthenaPractice database and related systems.
- Provide support in daily usage, updates and improving workflows related to AthenaPractice and related systems.
- Communicate deficiencies in reoccurring incorrect staff utilization of Health Information Systems.
- Communicate with administration to prioritize projects and establish completion goals.
- Develop a project management and scheduling system so that project plans are developed and can be implemented as expected. Communicate with providers and administration as to the status of current and upcoming projects.
- Maintain the systems necessary to remain in compliance with MIPS, State HIE and specialty registries to report to the appropriate government agencies in a timely manner as required.
- Provide multiple training opportunities to providers, managers and staff through classroom opportunities and LMS.
- Other projects as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study, or equivalent combination of work experience and training is required (health informatics is a plus)
- Five years’ experience supporting application solutions or relevant experience in a medical practice environment
Other Skills/Abilities:
- Master degree in Health Informatics (preferred) or equivalent experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work closely with providers
