The Paul L. Foster School of Medicine (PLFSOM), El Paso, TX, a component of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, anticipates the need to fill a vacancy for our physician Chief EMR officer within the next three months. This position will support the implementation of CEMR Version 9.6 in our ambulatory clinic enterprise, which includes approximately 250 faculty physicians and providers, 190 residents, and approximately 1000 staff in approximately 12 office locations.
PLFSOM began its roll out in August 2011 and is approximately 40% complete. The roll out to date has been largely successful secondary to the excellent communication skills of our current Chief EMR officer and the strong “customer first” mentality of the EMR project team. The position is a mixed EMR / Clinical role split 50 /50, reporting to the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs for the EMR role, and to the appropriate Department Chair for the Clinical Role. PLFSOM is actively recruiting in a majority of Departments to support the expansion to a four year medical school and increased medical school class size, so opportunities exist for physicians in a wide variety of specialties.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as a liaison between providers, the project team and executive leadership
- Serve on EMR steering committee for PLFSOM
- Take a lead role in evaluating existing workflows, and planning and communicating workflow redesigns to standardize processes through the clinical operation
- Identify new technology that could be integrated with the current system to better support end users and improve the current processes
- Exercise strong communication skills, especially in the area of communicating clinical needs and barriers to implementation and adoption from end users to the project team
- Study trends in health informatics to develop applications that increase efficiency in patient care
- Develop standards and "rules" in medical terminology and application to increase efficiency in patient care
- Advise steering committees on subject of health informatics and policymaking within the organization
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills
The ideal candidate will be a physician licensable to practice in Texas, with identifiable experience and success in a GE EMR implementation, equivalent to that of a clinical champion or more, preferably with experience managing a rollout out in two or more departments. Management, operational, and fiscal competencies are desirable.
