The Orders Completion Assistant in Centricity 9.5 (and perhaps other versions) was designed to assist the provider when signing a document received to complete an order. When an order number is not received or does not match, the Orders Completion Assistant looks for potential matches based on Order Date, LOC and Ordering provider. Unfortunately there are usually many orders that fall into that category. Despite the warning that the provider needs to review the potential match to see if it is okay before clicking sign and complete, the click happy provider ends up completing orders that are not really complete. What is suppose to assist the provider has become anything but and creates a huge issue in being able to track order completion.
The Order Completion Assistant should be more Client Defined. Allowing the client to choose whether they want to use the potential match feature or not in their user preference profile. At the very least, pre-checking the completion boxes should not occur on potential matches. Highlighting or bolding the potential match is okay, but not pre-checking. It runs the risk of order completion errors.
The Order Completion Assistant can be a great tool to remind the provider to complete the associated order. The pop up window is an effective way to get their attention but you lose them when boxes are pre-check. It would be a much improved feature if this potential matching feature was optional.
