Better integration to send PINs – workflow difficult we need to be able to send an email out from the registration screen or schedule screen to register for the portal. Should be as easy as right clicking or select a button where an email is sent and the PIN is generated. Keep it simple for staff, the workflow now is very complicated.
One of the goals has to be to make the portal ease and use to increase – staff will promote it if it is too difficult or too many steps.
Are you wanting to send the PIN via email?
The PIN is how you authenticate the patient. Since email encryption can't be ensured end-to-end, it would not be good to send via email.
I heard at the last CHUG that Surescripts was going to better automate the registration process but I do not know the details yet. The Weston Group does have a product that does the registration automatically. From what I understand, it looks to see if the patient has an email and has a portal account, if not it creates one and sends the patient a link to login. I'm not sure of the exact process but here is their contact info:
