Looking at adding the ability to sort the patient Problem list by clicking the column headers.
What is the expected behavior for dimmed Problems by CEMR users? Should dimmed problems be excluded from the column sort?
For example here, if I clicked on Description, the user would expect all the grayed out Problems to stay at the bottom of the list, correct?
From a usability standpoint, that makes sense to me. So I'm curious; the ability to dim problems on the problem list appears to either be new functionality, or it isn't available in CPS (our current version is CPS 12.2.1). Is the purpose to allow a provider to place items on the problem list that they might not be treating, but give them a more holistic view of all that is going on with the patient?
The reason I ask is that historically there has been a lot of confusion around the problem list in our practice. Some choose to only put the problems they are treating on the list and put everything else under past medical history. The primary reason this is done is so that during order entry, they only have the option of picking diagnoses that would legitimately justify the order. However, some choose to put all the patient's problems that are relevant to the care the patient is receiving, even though the provider may not be directly treating the problem. Perhaps this dimming functionality would give our providers the best of both worlds (i.e. be able to see all problems that are relative to the care the patient is receiving, but not display the dimmed problems during order entry)
