We are trying to reach meaningful use and are finding that our family practice providers are teetering right around the 40% mark for eprescribing and our pain practice is struggling around 20%.
Problem is Centricity's implementation. If a provider has any indication that something on a patient's medlist is scheduled, or they are in a hurry and fear the "scheduled med" error, they just print everything. Takes too much time for them to pick apart the scheduled's from the non-scheduled's.
Would help ENORMOUSLY if centricity would highlight the ePrescribable meds (or vice versa) on the Rx form. Prescribers need only tick the highlighted meds, Send Rx, tick the unhighlighted and Print Rx.
Simple easy solution, but i need support. Centricity will not implement unless they get a fair number of requests.
please help.
thanks,
tom
We would love to see this happen. We have a doctor who will not meet MU for this reason. His numbers are great, but his ePrescribing number will not make the cut so he will not attest. All for the reasons you state. The system doesn't keep his workflow functioning....
Put in an enhancement request, please. spread the word!!
Will do, I also think it would be great if the system could just auto print those that can't be sent. It knows the scripts can't go electronically, it tells you so. So why not just print those and tell me that??
yes, good idea.
That would be fantastic! I always print if I write a narc, Too time consuming to go back and hunt through 25 meds
if you would like to see this happen submit an enhancement request. they only pay attention if many people request.
thanks,
tom
I have submitted an enhancement request. However, it is unlikely they will do this since the law has changed and scheduled 3-5 can be sent electronically. From what I understand, Surescripts has met the requirements set by the DEA, and GE is incorporating their requirements into into version 12.....
good to know. so i guess emr 9.5 and cps 10 are not yet compatable with the surescripts new functionality?
We are on CPS 9.5 now and it isn't. I spoke with GE in regards to this issue and was told 11 would not have the requirements as it is being released December 24th, but they were incorporating it in 12 which should be released around April 2013.....
great thanks,
tom
The other part of this is of course the requirements of the provider. I believe they have to use a biometric device and they have to send the prescription themselves, not their nurse. I fear that they will still balk from the change in the workflow and will still just print the scripts. The problem will be that this will eventually affect ePrescribing numbers for meaningful use....
oh great. yes, this will be a problem.
i would then suggest that this enhancement request would still be worthwhile.
just checked with GE. I was told centricity will be unavalable to eprescribe scheduled medications until late 2013/early 2014.
Interesting the difference in dates..... Did they mention what version? I was told CPS version 12.
