In eScripts we have a ton of these. I asked at the last CHUG but can't remember the solution. Anybody out there know the solution?
Medi-Span changed the NDC codes and if you have custom lists, you will need to remove the one(s) in question and re-add. Its a pain.
There is also a problem with eRx - we are getting those and there are correct NDC numbers in the system. The lookup isn't working right. Supposed to be fixed in a later version - we are on 3.3.2.6173 and waiting for the next release after 3.5 to upgrade with so many problems with 3.5.
Know of any way to identify them, other than until they fail? We are also on 3.3.2.6173
If there is a way, I would love to know!
Haha all GE can tell me is to remove and add back but some still fail depending on the weather and day of the week.
yeah we are noting that as well. Its so frustrating.
For missing/out-of-date NDC codes we did 2 things:
- Updated our custom med lists so new meds added to chart will be correct
- Created a simple form that was added to all our note types that have the Prescription form.
We found that out-of-date NDC codes get cleared when a user selects the med in the Prescription form. The form tracks RX changes and when any occur, it checks the prescribed med's NDC code and displays a warning msg if missing. The pop-up can display over the Prescription form, it is up to the provider to change the med before prescribing it. We've told them to open the new form so they can easily access the Update Medications window to make the necessary changes.
We just went live with this form in CPS 11.1.138 this week and so far so good.
I'm having trouble attaching its .dlg file to this post - so email me if you would like a copy of it to test out in your version

Perfect thank you so much, by the way great form also, I can see this potentially helping big time.
Problem we have with the NDC errors is that the provider doesn't get a pop-up when initiating the eRx so they do not know it has failed until the Error Flag comes back in.
These aren't so much with new Rx from the Custom Lists as from patients where the Meds were entered long ago.
That's what we're running into, patient with Meds from 10 years ago on the med lists and Docs trying to refill them thru the refill update, which gives no pop up or error. Putting the form from Joan in the Refill update will fire a pop-up on clicking the check box to refill. So I can see it working great there. , not sure what to do when going through the meds button just hoping the built in pop up will work.
Joan,
Would you be willing to share your form? Our staff is very frustrated over this as well.
Thanks!
I had trouble getting the .dlg file to attach to my previous post so I'll try it again. If it still doesn't come through you can email me.
As I mentioned in the previous post, we just went live with this form in CPS 11.1.138 this week. We added it to all note types that had the Prescription form already in the note, inserting this form just after the Prescription form.
The instructions we gave providers who get the warning pop-up is to:
- uncheck the problem med in the Prescription form,
- go to the Med Code Review form and click the Update Medications button. From here they can change the med with the missing code.

It uploaded! Thanks so much!!
By the way to any others seems to work just fine in EMR 9.8
